Video Description:

It’s been around for 26 years and has become the oldest continuous big money bracket race on the planet. Unexpected Hero: Watch This Vortech YSi Blown Porsche 928 Make 1,1113hp To The Wheels – Porsche Powered!

Unexpected Hero: Watch This Vortech YSi Blown Porsche 928 Make 1,1113hp To The Wheels – Porsche Powered!

Want to talk about daring to be different? How about making four digit horsepower at the wheels with a Porsche 928 V8 engine! Carl Fausett owns this car and he is the guy who not only has developed the engine package you see here but he’s also the guy that races the thing incessantly. The car with this blower setup is in Bonneville trim as we see it here but it gets road raced and generally abused as well.

The Porsche 928 was powered by a succession of V8 engines that ranged in the 5.0L to 5.4L zone. At the last iteration the engines were making about 350hp from the factory. A good piece and certainly a fun car to drive but that was not good enough for Fausett. He and his 928 Motorsports team developed a package to stroke one of these things to 6.5L. These are dual overhead camshaft, four valve per cylinder engines. They breathe pretty well from the factory and they really love the extra stroke that come with the longer armed crank, they like cylinder sleeves that provide more bore and they certainly appear to love boost by looking at what this thing makes with the YSi

We do not think that car did all that much at Bonneville this year because, well, no one did. The salt was garbage and wet so we’re hoping Gary will be heading back in his blown gas altered Porsche because with the power this thing makes, we are fascinated by the possibilities of performance.

For now, sit back relax and listen to an unsung hero V8 put in work on the rollers!

Press play below to see a Porsche V8 put 1,113hp to the wheels!

What To Pack In Your Drag Week Or Race Week Trailer: Motion Raceworks Thought They Might Show Us How It’s Done

What To Pack In Your Drag Week Or Race Week Trailer: Motion Raceworks Thought They Might Show Us How It’s Done

With both Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 and Drag Week coming up in the next couple of weeks, there is a lot of thrashing going on around the country as folks get ready to go and race. And besides the building of cars, finishing of engines, and all that goes into making a car ready to both drive and race, there is then the loading of all the crap you have to haul in order to be self sufficient. Yes, you can stop and buy parts, yes you can stay in a hotel, yes you can ask strangers and fellow competitors for help, but you can’t have anyone carry anything you need to keep you or the car alive otherwise. That means you have to haul your own spares, tools, luggage, etc. regardless of what kind of vehicle you are in. For many folks that means a trailer is in order, and with a rule mandating a maximum trailer size of 4 feet by 8 feet, you have to be smart with what you bring and how you pack it.

Because of these challenges, there are a lot of different ideas on what makes the best Race Week trailer setup, but one thing that never changes is the need to pack 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. Here are some tips and tricks from Doug at Motion Raceworks on how to do it right, and make sure you bring the right things, as he packs his trailer for his 7 second Nova.

FREE LIVESTREAM: It’s About Time! SFG Brings Big Money Bracket Racing To The Upper Mid-West In A Big Way

FREE LIVESTREAM: It’s About Time! SFG Brings Big Money Bracket Racing To The Upper Mid-West In A Big Way

Big applause for the SFG Promotions crew as they do something you almost never see, which is to bring big money bracket racing to the upper mid-west. This weekend’s racing at the SFG Promotions FTI 350 starts Thursday and is bringing big money racing to Cedar Falls Iowa’s Cedar Falls Motorsports Park. This is the third annual event, and is limited to just 350 entries so the money is for real and will go to one of these 350 entries. With $25,000 on the line Thursday, and $50,000 up for grabs both Friday and Saturday, someone is going to go home with a lot more money than when they left the house. Big thanks to FTI and SFG, as well as all the other sponsors, because this weekend is going to be great.

Here is the info from MotorManiaTV:

With almost no big money bracket races in the upper mid-west, the team at SFG Promotions struck a deal with the great folks at Cedar Falls Motorsports Park to bring the SFG brand to their pristine facility. This is the 3rd running of the event and is limited to 350 entries. Look for the best of the best to be on hand for another great weekend of racing! The action starts Thursday at noon central time.

Stock And Super Stock Extravaganza: The Class Racer’s Revival Comes To St. Louis – WATCH HERE LIVE!

Stock And Super Stock Extravaganza: The Class Racer’s Revival Comes To St. Louis – WATCH HERE LIVE!

While big money bracket racing has been growing with leaps and bounds the past few years, the Stock Eliminator and Super Stock Eliminator racers have been finding themselves with less and less NHRA and IHRA races to compete in. Thankfully, events like the recent Southern Sportsman Showdown and this week’s Class Racer’s Revival, are throwing big prize money on the table for those same NHRA and IHRA Stock and Super Stock racers. This is wheels up, no delay box, muscle car drag racing at its finest and we can’t wait to see more events like this one pop up. Thanks to our friends at MotormaniaTV you can watch all the action LIVE and FREE this week starting this morning!

This is NOT your average big money bracket race, this is a Stock Eliminator and Super Stock only event that is paying $25,000 to win each day and will also feature a couple different shoot outs and consolation races.

NHRA and IHRA cars are legal and this is going to be an event to watch. All NHRA and IHRA rules will be in effect, cars from the same class (ie SS/BA vs SS/BA) will run heads up just like an NHRA event. This is going to be rad! Seriously. this is epic racing right here folks and I’m only sad I’m going to miss it! You’ll have to watch it online with me.

Shop Talk With Shawn! Tearing Down The Car, Discussing NPK, and the Future of the Car! Big Changes!

Shop Talk With Shawn! Tearing Down The Car, Discussing NPK, and the Future of the Car! Big Changes!

Will No-Prep Kings happen? Will it be another year of limited racing? What car is Shawn going to bring? What changes will be made? And what has been done to the NPK car over the winter? Well there are going to be plenty of answers, and a bunch more questions, plus fun and shenanigans like you expect from Shawn and 187 Customs. This is a look behind the scenes, and will give you some insight into what it really takes to make this car go down the track and get to the races. There are some hints as to some new things that might be in store for Shawn and the team in 2021, and some things that really need to happen for his 2021 to be successful. It’s cool hearing some of this stuff and it is great to hear the enthusiasm for racing in 2021.

One thing you’ll hear in this video is talk about street vs track, and about the OG Murder Nova vs this “new” NPK Murder Nova, and it is fun to hear the thoughts on both. You’ll also get a look at some of the other stuff going on in the shop, but the most pressing thing is for the NPK Murder Nova to get taken apart and ready to go to Dads for a fresh repaint.

Watch.

Historical Footage: A Look Into One Of Toronto’s More Notorious Street Racers And His 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator…That Was A Former Ford Of Canada Drag Car!

Historical Footage: A Look Into One Of Toronto’s More Notorious Street Racers And His 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator…That Was A Former Ford Of Canada Drag Car!

Two cars line up on a backroad somewhere near Toronto, Canada in 1979. This is your average street race…a few bystanders, those in the know. No heavy crowds and nobody else nearby to cause a problem. Two cars, a 1969 Camaro and a 1970 Mercury Cougar, line up. The Camaro’s situation isn’t known, but the Cougar is well documented: the driver is Dieter Scharschmidt, a well-known street racer, and the Mercury isn’t anything to trifle with. A Cougar Eliminator was already a pretty stout piece, but the Cougar had started life as one of Ford of Canada’s racing team cars, a H/S runner wheeled by Vic Beleny and Bruce Fitzgibbon. Scharschmidt bought the car minus engine and trans in 1971 after Ford of Canada decided to let the team go amid the 75% racing budget cuts within the company and got to work building it into something wicked. Without question, his money was well spent because between the time he got the car finished to when he sold it in 1983, it was nearly unbeaten…”nearly” because it did record a loss, but Scharschmidt vehemently claims that the other car jumped the start.

Depending on what you read, either the Mercury was restored back to it’s original racing setup (complete with a 428 CJ that would be sure to put the fear of God into any street warrior) or was totaled out sometime in the mid-1990s and was never heard from again…tracking the story gets difficult, so if anyone knows the truth, we’d like to hear it. Meanwhile, check out some footage of the Eliminator putting in work in 1979:
