Solid Axle Swapping The NBS Chevrolet Truck Continues: Let The Welding Begin!

Solid Axle Swapping The NBS Chevrolet Truck Continues: Let The Welding Begin!

I hate watching these videos, because all it does it make me want to buy an IFS 4×4 so I can solid axle swap it. It’s been too long since I had a lifted truck and now I want one. Thanks a lot Bruce Cook! I did not need to add anything to the list of things I want to buy and build.

In this new video series of his, Bruce is taking on a new off-road project and doing things a bit differently. He’s built other trucks and stuff, but always with help from different shops or manufacturers. This time he wants to do as much as is humanly possible, on his own from his wheelchair. As he puts it, he’ll have to have some help with heavy lifting, but nothing us upright folks wouldn’t have to have a hand with. He also knows what he can and can’t do, like setting up the new gears in the axles, but that’s about knowing his skill level and has nothing to do with the chair or his injury.

As a big fan of Solid Axle Swaps in general, and with one floating around in my head for a future project, this one is right up my alley. And since we like following other folks project around here, we figured this one looked like fun. So watch, and let us know what you think. And maybe Bruce will inspire you to get out into the garage to do some wrenching this weekend.

Playing In The Dirt: 2020 Baja 500 Robby Gordon Highlights & Recap

Playing In The Dirt: 2020 Baja 500 Robby Gordon Highlights & Recap

As you well know, we love BAJA, and specifically racing in BAJA. In fact, just last night we were talking with a group of folks about the BAJA 1000 and just how awesome that event is even if you never leave town. Seriously, just going and hanging out and seeing the spectacle is amazing, even if the only off-road action you see is the action in the wash as the racers leave town. The whole thing is fun and excitement at every turn and there is a spirit and a personality that you’ll find at no other races in the world. This is what BAJA is all about, and perhaps nobody lives and breaths it more than Robby Gordon. After all, he took his first trip on the BAJA 1000 strapped into the rear of his father’s Baja Bug when there wasn’t even a seat in place. If he had been any older he’d never have fit, and his mother’s reservations and dad’s disbelief were not nearly enough to keep him from taking that first ride. I’m not sure he’s missed one since.

I’ve had the privilege of hanging out with Robby a couple of times and can tell you that this dude is as hard core as they come. He’s raced everything, and wants to win no matter what and where he’s racing.

Here is a little fun from Robby and the gang during the 2020 BAJA 500

It’s The Van, Man: This 1975 Chevrolet Promotional Film Hawking Vans Is Pretty Awesome

It’s The Van, Man: This 1975 Chevrolet Promotional Film Hawking Vans Is Pretty Awesome

What’s old is cool again, right? In many ways that line is the truth for all automotive enthusiasts who love the machines that carried us around decades ago, but the van world is booming right now. Classic vans hark back to the 1970s decade when they became a massive subset of the aftermarket and developed their own culture around them. This video is not so much about the vanning counter culture as much as it is about the primary market Chevrolet was trying to reach, the practical one. No shag carpets here but a study in why these vehicles were great for local cargo hauling and other work.

It’s weird that we’re kind of at the end of the traditional van era, most models have been discontinued in favor of smaller, European-style low floor jobs like the Ford Transit and others. There’s something great about the full-framed, tough as nails vans that we all grew up with, though.

We’re not sue if this video was shown by dealers at the dealership, sent to large fleet customers or what but we’re telling you right now that we want that red and white cargo van with loads of horsepower and an engine swap right now. Funny how the yeoman vehicles of the past become the cool stuff of the present, right?
